Spiritual defeat is possible for anyone
- because of the bent of our nature (Psalm 51:5)
- because sin is attractive
- because sin meets needs
- because we have freedom of choice
Spiritual defeat is painful
- the pain of alienation (Psalm 51:4)
- the pain of guilt (Psalm 51:3)
- the pain of joylessness (Psalm 51:8, Psalm 51:12)
There is pardon for sin
- we should be serious about sin
- we should be serious about God
